He Gave Up So Much

A few days ago, I was washing dishes. A bit unwillingly. And as I was standing there, I was thinking. (What else can you do when you are washing dishes?) This is what I was thinking:

I can be so unwilling to give up my time to do things for my family (like washing dishes) at times. I want what I want. And I don't want what I don't want. And what I don't want is to give up what I want. :)

Then I started thinking about Jesus. What did He give up? He gave His all-- His glory, His home in heaven, His relationship with His Father, (for a brief time) His very life, for me. Me, who is a worthless sinner, a mere creation of His--one of billions of other sinners. It is stunning, really, when you think about it.

And it made me think how thankful I should be, and how very willing I should be to give up my time to serve others.

It's the least I can do, really.

  1. Carissa,

That is a good thought, and one that is very valuable for oldest siblings. :) Realizing all that Christ did for us is truly a great antidote to laziness.

But we have found a difference! I love washing dishes! I used to hate it (long story about that, rather funny if you think about it right), but now I have learned to enjoy it.

  2. Jay,

    Thanks for the comment.

And the difference isn't really that great... while I don't love doing them, it's not the dishes that I was complaining about--it was the fact that I couldn't do what I wanted to do. :)I'd like to hear the story of how you came to love washing dishes sometime. :)
