Odd Things People Have Said to Us

(Trying to be slightly insulting and exaggerating) "There are hairs in this pool that are like... a foot long!" (meanwhile, I am laughing inwardly, saying to myself, "You have no idea. Some of those hairs are three feet long.")

"Are you from Little House on the Prairie?" (This was not said insultingly, merely smilingly. I hope they weren't actually wondering that.)

"Look at those walking Jews!" (um, okay, hi to you, too!)

"Are you Amish or something?" (I guess they've never seen Amish people before... we wear buttons, prints on our clothes, and so on, and we don't wear black aprons or caps.)

"How do you run in a dress?" (um, kind of like you run normally... you know, one foot, then the next foot, and repeat quickly)

Once, I was walking around our small block with my brother Matthew, and someone drove by and stuck their tongue out at us! I just waved and then laughed over it later. It was so random!

I'm sure there are more things, but that's all I have at present. I'll try to add more later.

  1. That is also really funny. We get some similar comments (we don't go to pools, so we don't get the first one). There are some really funny insults that people come up with... and some pretty boring and non-unique ones. :)

  2. Glad you thought so! :)

I always say, if you're going to insult us, at least make it funny/interesting. :P Okay, so I don't actually always say that... But I do think it. What other funny "insults" have you all gotten?

Yeah, I know about the boring ones... and the questions, too. Ugh. Oh well. Sometimes, when I get asked the same weird questions over and over, I feel like giving some crazy answer, but I never do.(Like: "Why aren't you going to college?" "Because I don't like colleges and I think they are evil." [for people that don't know me, I don't really think colleges are evil.] Or, "Why do you wear dresses?" "So that people will ask me dumb questions.") Maybe I should. It would give them something to tell their friends. Haha. :)

Anyway, it's nice to know y'all get them too. :D Though, of course, I already knew that.

We will have to talk about this (questions and insults and so forth)when we come see you all. :)

  3. Four feet and maybe five feet long! :D You should see what we pull out of the drain in the bathtub!

I wish someone would tell me I looked Jewish! What a compliment!

I've had the Amish person question, too. At my church. And I go to a charasmatic type church. Like, why would an Amish go to a church like that!? (The girl who asked me said she and her friend were going to go to Hollywood and be models, too.)(Whatever.)

Great comebacks! My aunt is always asking me why I don't cut my hair, "It would look so cute short!", and I've fallen back on, "Because I think it's prettier! Don't you think my hair is pretty?" What can she say to that? Haha.

I don't get a whole lot of comments. Mostly just looks up and down. I make sure they see me looking them up and down, too.

  4. Oh, yes, I know what you pull out of the drain! I know, dear, I know *all* about it. Remember, we have 4 girls with long hair. :)

That is odd! Why would they ask you that there?? :)

That is a great comeback. I do that sometimes... why do you wear dresses? "Because I like to." :D

Yeah, we get the looks, too. These are a few comments that we've had over the years... not like a regular occurrence. :) Mostly they do just look at us weird. They've gotten used to us sort of around here. They ought to be used to us... we've been here like 10 years. :)

It is kind of funny the things people do or say... and fun to talk about afterward. We have so much fun with it. :)

    Thanks for commenting!
